How Should the Diet of a Good Athlete Be?

A good diet plays a key role for all athletes, it: delays fatigue, improves recovery, prevents disease and injury, as well as bone wear and muscle wasting. Taking care of your body, feeding properly, and developing your skills, will help you become an elite sport player.

Evolution Soccer Academy has a list of essential foods for an athlete’s diet, regardless of the sport you play.

An athlete’s diet

🍴 Fish

Fish is a fundamental source of protein. It has barely any fat, and it is easily digestible. Whitefish such as whiting, fresh cod, skate or monkfish is ideal for an athlete’s diet.

🍴 Cereals

Whole-wheat bread and brown rice are the basis of the athletes’ diet. They are a source of energy and provide fiber which also helps cleanse the body and regulate its rhythms.

🍴 Meat

White meats, such as turkey, chicken, and rabbit are ideal since they have bigger fat content; they have a valuable protein level that helps to recover muscle mass quickly.

🍴 Vegetable and fruit

Both have a high content of minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants. Fruits hydrate and help the body recover after a day of intense exercise. Bananas, melons, watermelons, and avocado are fundamental on this diet.

🍴 Dairy products

Skimmed milk, low-fat yogurts, low-fat cheeses, soy products, foods with a lot of calcium and vitamin D are essential for strengthening bones and key to losing weight (in cases where losing weight is necessary).

Potatoes provide energy thanks to their high content of carbohydrate; they are also easily digested and filling.

🍴 Honey

Honey is a rich source of phenols and other antioxidant compounds. Many of these help reduce the risk of heart disease, strokes, and some types of cancer.

🍴 Eggs

A very important food to keep muscles strong. They are a great source of protein and a perfect food to recover energy.
