Hydration is vital because our bodies need water to function correctly and even more so when we practice some sport. Usually, we replace the fluids we lose when we get home after a long day and drink a tall glass of fresh water. If you do not do this, you will start to feel bad.

Sports and hydration
Children regularly become dehydrated when they are having a great time playing or practicing a sport. It can be due to hot weather, but also in enclosed spaces, for example, playing basketball at the gym.
Children can also become dehydrated when they are sick.
What are the signs of dehydration?
Thirst is the main clue, but other signs that indicate a person may be dehydrated are:
- Dizziness and exhaustion.
- Accelerated heart rate.
- Dry mouth and lips.
What should I do?
If you are going to go outdoors to play, run or go to sports practice, it is crucial that you drink water before, during, and after exercising, especially if it is hot. Dehydration can go hand in hand with heat-related illnesses, and heat stroke.
You need to drink enough to quench your thirst and maybe a little more if you are sick or exercising.
If you are sick, take small sips of liquid regularly, such as water or diluted juice, even if you are not thirsty or hungry.
Limit sodas and sugary drinks, such as:
– Fruit juices.
– Iced tea.
These drinks contain an excessive amount of sugar that your body does not need.
Proper hydration before, during, and after the completion of physical activity is essential for the responsible and safe practice of any sport, and allows the achievement of better physical performance.
